Joan Biermann, Director & CEO
Ms. Joan Biermann is a business and product development strategist with over 30 years of executive management experience in large corporate, entrepreneurial, and nonprofit organizations. Her areas of expertise include new program and product development, business intelligence, & operations (infrastructure, finance, sales, marketing) for emerging growth companies.
Joan’s background includes an extended period on Wall Street where she worked in the Operations, Technology, and Finance divisions of CitiCorp’s North American Investment Bank, Bank of America’s Trust Company of New York, and the private investment banking firm Goldman, Sachs. After leaving Wall Street, Joan specialized in the novel business development challenges social entrepreneur initiatives face – an area she continues to work in today. Joan helped develop highly successful new programs and products for social entrepreneur clients in the biotech, healthcare, financial services, and environmental advocacy sectors before launching Finance Flows, Inc (a boutique instructional design firm) in 2009. Finance Flows' original products mapped complex business systems | transactions and financial product lifecycles. However, for more than a decade, the firm has been focused almost exclusively on developing award-winning energy training for the US workforce and general public.
In 2013, with underwriting from multiple Foundations (Sloan, BNYMellon, GE) and Finance Flows, Joan helped organize and launch 3Q Innovation, an independent economic development and workforce training nonprofit addressing the unique employment needs of third quarter (50+) and other at-risk workers. In addition to her ongoing work with 3Q Innovation, Joan has actively served the nonprofit community as either a director | officer or volunteer for over 25 years.
Joan holds a Master in Public Administration degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Reed College.
