The Penn Station Problem: A Solution with Andy Byford

Thursday, January 8, 2026
6:00 pm8:00 pm

The AIANY Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will welcome Andy Byford, the globally experienced former head of NYC Transit, to discuss the problem of Penn Station in its current form. Byford was appointed in 2025 by the U.S. DOT to lead Amtrak’s Penn Station reconstruction after the federal government took control of the project from New York State.

Tasked with starting construction by 2027, Byford is seen by supporters as a rare leader with the credibility to break decades of political gridlock and finally transform Penn Station into a functional, modern gateway. The program will begin with a short presentation of Penn Station | MSG history and several solutions proposed over the years.
